If you have a VPS hosting plan with a Plesk licence through Unlimited Web Hosting, there are some changes you need to know about. Plesk has updated the way licences are managed, and those changes affect how your panel is activated and what features are available to you.
This post covers what has changed, what it means in practice, and what you should do if anything looks different in your control panel.
Plesk has moved to a subscription-based licensing model. Rather than a one-time activation key tied to a specific server, licences are now managed through Plesk’s licensing portal and linked to your account. This affects how licences are issued, transferred and renewed.
For customers on UWH VPS plans that include a Plesk licence, the licence is provisioned and managed on your behalf. You do not need to purchase or activate a key manually. If you are running Plesk on a server where the licence was previously managed differently, you may notice a prompt to re-activate or update your licence details.
Plesk is available in several editions, each with a different feature set. The three main tiers are Web Admin, Web Pro and Web Host. Understanding which edition your licence covers will tell you what tools are available in your panel.
If you are unsure which edition your current licence covers, you can check this inside Plesk under Tools & Settings > Licence Management.
One of the more noticeable changes for existing customers is around WordPress Toolkit. In earlier versions of Plesk, a basic version of WordPress Toolkit was included across all editions. Following the licence restructure, the full WordPress Toolkit (Deluxe) is now tied to Web Pro and Web Host licences.
If you were previously using WordPress Toolkit features that are no longer visible in your panel, this is likely the reason. Customers on Web Admin licences retain access to a limited version of the tool, covering installation and basic management. The Deluxe version, which includes staging, smart updates and security scanning, requires a Web Pro licence or above.
Tip: If you manage WordPress sites through Plesk and rely on staging or smart update features, check your licence edition before assuming something is broken. A licence upgrade may be all that is needed.
An invalid licence warning in Plesk can appear for a few reasons: the licence has expired, the server IP address has changed, or the licence was not transferred correctly during a migration. In most cases, the fix is to retrieve and re-apply the licence key from within Plesk.
To do this, go to Tools & Settings > Licence Management > Retrieve Keys. Plesk will attempt to pull the current licence from the activation server. If the issue persists after doing this, it is worth checking whether the server’s IP address matches the one the licence was originally issued against.
If you are still seeing an invalid licence after following those steps, our support team can check the licence status on your account. You can find guidance on opening a ticket in the UWH knowledgebase.
These licence changes apply to any customer running Plesk on a VPS where the licence is managed through UWH. If you installed Plesk independently using your own licence key, your setup is unaffected by changes on our side, though you should still check with Plesk directly if you notice any changes to your activation status.
For customers who want to install or reinstall Plesk on a VPS, the Plesk installation guide in our knowledgebase covers the process step by step. You can also find guidance on managing your VPS more broadly in the VPS management section of the knowledgebase.
These updates reflect changes made by Plesk to how their licensing works across all providers. The edition tiers, WordPress Toolkit availability and subscription-based activation are now standard across Plesk deployments. If you run a VPS with Plesk through UWH, your licence is managed as part of your plan. For anything that looks out of place, our Plesk hosting page has further details, and our team is available via the contact page if you need to discuss your specific setup.
